The Department of Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering was established in the year 1997, affiliated to Visvesvaraya Technological University, Belagavi, Karnataka with an intake of 60 students. The Department is also recognized as research centre to offer Ph.D. programme. The primary objective of the department is to equip students to cater Industry/Societal needs.
Curricular Aspects: The department is continuously striving towards to meet the ever-changing needs of industry with its innovative curriculum structure. This includes;
• Continuous interactions with industry professionals through Department Advisory Board (DAB).
• Internship opportunities for students to get familiar with industry environment.
• Industry collaborative projects to meet the present technological advancement.
Teaching-Learning & Evaluation:
The department is practicing the Outcome Based teaching pedagogy since 2007.
• It includes defining Course Outcomes (COs) in line with Programme Outcomes (POs) & their attainment.
• Departments promotes faculty to use Activity Based Learning (ABL), Problem Based Learning (PBL),etc.
• Delivery of Content Beyond Syllabus (CBS) by industry experts.
• Department offers Value Added Programmes (VAP) to enhance their skill sets in cutting edge technologies.
Research, Innovations & Collaboration: The department is recognized as research centre from 2012 with the provision for Ph.D. (Full Time / Part Time) admission. The department provides research facilities for research scholars to carry out research in their specific area. Students and research scholars are encouraged to take up inter disciplinary research in various domains like Signal & Image Processing, Wireless Sensors Network, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning. MOUs with the leading industries, Foreign Universities and association with professional bodies are also being used for the holistic growth of the department.
Student Support and Progression: The department provides platform for effective interaction between Alumni & students. Pre-placement activities to train the students in aptitude, logical thinking and communication skills. Department encourages the students for their participation in co-curricular and extra-curricular activities. It also promotes higher studies in India & abroad by conducting various awareness programmes on GATE, GRE & TOFEL etc. The department has a professional students’ association “INSTRA” under which a techno-cultural fest “Anantham” and a state level project exhibition & technical paper presentation “Sanrachana” are organized every year. The department also has a socio-welfare unit “ABHYUDAYA” which is coordinated by students
Department has well qualified and highly experienced faculty members with rich experience in research in allied domains. Special fund is released as per faculty request to promote publications in International Journals/Conferences and Faculty Development Programs in their area of interest.

Department has four spacious class rooms with adequate seating capacity. Each class room is provided with Computer system, LCD Projector with screen facility for Audio/ Visual purpose. In addition Green glass board and Podium are provided in each class rooms.
The EIE Dept. Library is a veritable feast of knowledge and is available to students, faculty and researchers. The Department library is well equipped with more than 1416 text books and reference books, project reports, seminar reports, CDs, and previous years’ VTU question papers.

1. IETE Student Forum (ISF) is a student membership forum under IETE, New Delhi. All the 2018 batch students (Currently 5th semester) of Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering department are the members of the ISF Forum.
2. ISOI Student Forum is a student membership forum under Instrument Society of India (ISOI), Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru. All the 2016 and 2017 batch (Currently 7th semester ) students of Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering department are the members of this forum.
3. ISTE Student Forum is a student membership forum under Indian Society for Technical Education, New Delhi. All the 2016, 2015 and 2014 batch students of Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering department are the members of this forum.
This Forum provides ample opportunity to students to discover the talent hidden in them. This forum gives a platform to students, to exhibit technical skill, presentation skill, communication skill in organising various events for students in the technical field. .

VTU Research Centre in the Department of Electronics & Instrumentation Engineering was started in the year 2012, with provision for Ph.D. (Full Time / Part Time), Integrated Ph.D. and M.Sc. (Engg.). Since then the research facility is available for research scholars to carry out research in their specific area. Students and research scholars are encouraged to take up inter disciplinary research in various domains like cryptography, Signal & Image Processing, Wireless Sensors Network, Deep Learning. Two faculty members are guiding Ph.D. students in various fields. Open Seminars for Research Scholars will be conducted at regular intervals to assess their Research progress.
