Introduction

The Department of Civil Engineering was established in the year 2009, with the vision to produce responsible, technically qualified professionals with ethical and human values by providing excellent teaching learning and research. The department is accredited to National Board of Accreditation (NBA) with a current intake of 60.

The department has to its credit a team of qualified, experienced and dedicated faculty members. At present department have 8 faculty members with PhD degree and remaining faculty members in the department are carrying out their research work. The main aim of the department is to equip the students with the knowledge and expertise to grow professionally and contribute significantly to the society.

Department has established membership with professional bodies, such as Indian Concrete Institute (ICI) Bangalore center, Association of Consulting Civil Engineering (ACCE (I)) Bangalore Center and Builders Association of India (BAI) Bangalore Centre.

The Department of Civil Engineering has established a good relationship with core Civil Engineering Industries. Department is coordinating with more than 25 companies which are offering internship and placement opportunities to the students. The department regularly organizes Webinars, Student development programs, Faculty development programs, Conferences, seminars and Workshops for the betterment of the students and Civil Engineering fraternity.

Civil Engineering is a professional engineering discipline that deals with the design, construction, and maintenance of the physical and naturally built environment, including public works such as roads, bridges, canals, dams, airports, sewerage systems, pipelines, structural components of buildings, and railways. At our Department Students are encouraged to participate in various technical and co-curricular activities and guiding them to publish their project work in reputed Journals. Regular Industrial visits, model making competitions, innovative mini projects organized by the department helps students learn more practically and to contribute significantly to the society.

    Project Lab Department has setup laboratory to carry out various funded projects and consultancy work.

    Class room

    Department has seven spacious class rooms with adequate seating capacity. Each class room is provided with Computer system, LCD Projector with screen facility for Audio/ Visual purpose. In addition Green glass board and Podium are provided in each class rooms.

    Seminar/Auditorium facility

    Department has a well-equipped seminar hall which is acoustically designed for good audio listening, with 150 seating capacity. A venue for knowledge enhancement of students and faculties by conducting invited talks, seminars, workshops and many other activities.

    The department has well maintained library with around 180+ books, previous year project reports, Seminar Reports, Laboratory Manuals, Civil Engineering Code Books, Journals / Magazines, Course Materials, Power Point Presentations and Newspapers are made available in the Department Library.

    Students and research scholars are encouraged to take up inter disciplinary research in various domains like Transportation Engineering, Highway Engineering, Hydraulics and Water Resource Management, Remote Sensing and GIS, Soft computing, etc.

    Publications

    The faculties of the program are actively involved in publication of the technical/research papers in various national and international journals and conferences.

    Funded Projects

    The faculty members of the department are involved in carrying out research activities and funding is also sanctioned from various agencies to encourage the research works.

    Consultancy

    The faculty members of the department are also actively involved in consultancy work in addition to their regular academic work. The department undertakes consultancy services both from government and private organizations and generates the revenue to the extent of Rs.20 to Rs.25 lakh per year trough soil testing, material testing, water and wastewater tests, road design, Third party inspection and Proof checking, survey works., etc.

    Faculty Pursuing PhD

    Faculties are encouraged to do Ph.D. and currently seven faculties have registered and pursuing their Ph.D.

    Following is the action plan for industry collaboration:

    • Inviting industries for setting up competency centers in emerging technology areas.
    • To identify the various avenues through which we can interact with local firms, businesses and other intermediaries in relation to research and innovative activity.
