The Department is Headed by Dr D. Mahesh Kumar
The Department of Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering was established in the year 1997 for facilitating training in Instrumentation Engineering under Bangalore University. Presently, it is offering under graduate course in E & IE to cater curriculum as prescribed by Visvesvaraya Technological University, Belagavi, Karnataka, India. The Department is currently headed by Dr. D. Mahesh Kumar.
Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering is a multi-disciplinary undergraduate programme which deals with Science and Technology. The department is recognized as VTU research centre from 2011. Presently five research scholars have registered for Ph.D in the centre.
In today’s world of technological advancements, Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering plays a vital role in aircraft instrumentation and control, digital signal processing, biomedical instrumentation and processing, distributed control systems, process controls and automation, robotics, embedded systems, MEMS technology etc.
From the Desk of HOD
The department when started in 1997, was affiliated to Bangalore University with an intake of 60 students. Since 1998, it is affiliated to VTU, Belagavi. Being one of the key departments, it has a student population of 240 who learn to develop methods of measuring, processing and controlling of signals in various process industries. The students also learn the latest technologies like VLSI design and communication systems along with programming skills to stay in par with Electronics and IT industries. Knowing the ever growing importance and fast changing technical requirements, we have set up laboratories with state of the art facilities to give an in-depth exposure to the students on practical aspects. They are also trained in calibration and use of automated equipments. The department provides exclusive library facilities for the students.
The Department has well qualified faculty who are expert enough in different specializations and are supported by qualified technical staff. We have got a student faculty ratio of 26:1.
The department has a professional students’ association “INSTRA” – Instrumentation Association under which a techno-cultural fest “Anantham” and a State Level Project Exhibition & Technical Paper Presentation “Sanrachana” are organized every year.
The Department of Electronics & Instrumentation Engineering has been recognized as VTU Research Centre. The department has already been accredited for three years and is again applying for National Board of Accreditation (NBA) in the current academic year.
The students of the department have an opportunity to get placed either in core companies or non-core companies. Core companies like Yokogawa and National Instruments are the suitable companies for the core company aspirants. Students can also find their avenues in non-core companies like Wipro, cognizant, Tech Mahindra, Cap Gemini, Mind Tree, IBM, Accenture, NTT Data, Amazon, HP, HP Tech Support, PC Technologies, Sonata Software out of which many of the companies visit the campus for campus recruitments. More than 80% of the eligible students have been placed through campus recruitments in companies like Wipro, Cognizant, Tech Mahindra, Accenture, NTT Data, Cap Gemini and Yokogawa.
The department recommends students to take up internships in various public sectors during semester vacations and also recommends for higher education in reputed Universities.

About industry visits organized
Every year industrial visits will be organized from the department for fifth semester and above students in view of offering an industrial exposure, which involves the major processing units in the industry which is a part of the curriculum. Information about a few such visits have been shared.
The third year and final year students were taken to ISRO Satellite Centre, Vimanapura, Bengaluru on 29th September 2016, in order to enhance the knowledge of students beyond the syllabus in the area of Satellites and Space Researches.
The final year students were taken to Heidelberg Cement India Ltd., Ammasandra, Tumkur on 9th Nov 2015, in order to enhance the practical knowledge in the area of process instrumentation and control.
An Industrial visit for the 5th semester students of Instrumentation Technology was organized on 3rd October 2013 to Kannan Devan Hills Plantation Company Pvt. Ltd. This visit enhanced the students’ knowledge about the various levels of processing tea leaves starting from leaves segregation to tea powder packaging.
On the occasion of Birth Centenary Celebrations of His Holiness Jagadguru Sri Dr. Shivarathri Rajendra Mahaswamiji, the 13th State Level ISTE Students’ Annual Convention “E-Pravarthana-2K16” was organized by the Department on 25th August 2016. The convention was inaugurated by Prof. Pratap Sinha K Desai, President, ISTE, New Delhi. The Chief Guest of the function was Mr. Kurien K Eapen, Competency Head, Wipro Pvt. Ltd.
The convention was attended by more than 600 hundred students from various Engineering and Diploma colleges across the state & participated in many events and won the prizes. The program was concluded by prize distribution to winners of various events followed by cultural program.
Dept.of E&IE, conducted ANANTHAM’16 under INSTRA (Department Students’ Association), which is a two days technical fest that is held every year. It was held on 16th & 17th of March 2016. The Chief Guest for the inauguration programme was Mr. Naveenchandra, Sr. Manager, LRU-MRO, Helicopter Division, HAL, Bengaluru. The other dignitaries present were Dr.B.T.Nijaguna, Professor Emeritus, Dr. Mrithyunjaya V Latte, Principal and Dr.D.Mahesh Kumar, HOD, Dept. of E&IE. The inauguration was followed by technical events like Paper presentation, Tech-Quiz, Tech-charades, Circuit debugging, Group discussion, Colour coding, 2048, Speak-A-Tech, C-Programming, Logo Mania, Tech Hunt, Techxting, Pixellatte & Tech-rangoli. All the students and staff of the department were present in the event.
The Parent’s- Teachers’ meeting was organized on 22nd of October 2016 in the department. The meeting was attended by parents as well as students of 3rd, 5th and 7th semester. Objectives of the meeting were to discuss about students’ attendance status, academic performance, activities and achievements of the Department and NBA process being followed in the Department. The meeting was interactive and feedback was collected from the parents.

Department of of E&IE organized its Alumni meet – “SANGAMA -2K16” on 5th March, 2016. It was an opportunity to the alumni to share their thoughts. The programme commenced with an invocation followed by lighting of the lamp by the Principal Dr. Mrityunjaya V Latte, HOD Dr. D Mahesh Kumar, Dr. D Jayadevappa, professor and Mrs. Charupriya, an alumni of 2009. The Head of the department Dr. D Mahesh Kumar addressed the gathering then, the Principal, Dr. Mrityunjaya V Latte shared his thoughts. Prof. Dr. D Jayadevappa presented the Vision, Mission, Program Educational Objectives and Program Specific Outcomes of the department to the alumni. Most of the alumni spoke about their current career and past experiences in the college. The feedback regarding the same was taken from the alumni after the presentation.
